Practice proper handwashing: Use soap and clean water, scrub for 20 seconds, and dry with a clean towel. Handwashing at critical times (after toilet use, before eating) can prevent up to 45% of diarrheal diseases.

How can my community request W.A.S.H projects?

Communities can request W.A.S.H projects through their ward councillors or by submitting a formal request to the W.A.S.H Department. Requests should include community needs assessment, proposed location, and community commitment to participate in implementation and maintenance.

What is the process for borehole installation?

The process includes: 1) Community application and needs assessment, 2) Hydrogeological survey to identify water sources, 3) Community mobilization and site preparation, 4) Drilling and installation, 5) Water quality testing, 6) Handover to community with training on operation and maintenance.

How are communities involved in W.A.S.H projects?

Communities are involved through: Participation in project planning and decision-making, contribution of local materials and labor, establishment of water and sanitation committees, training on operation and maintenance, and co-financing where possible to ensure ownership and sustainability.

What maintenance support is provided after project completion?

After project completion, we provide: Training for community maintenance committees, technical support for repairs, spare parts supply chain information, periodic monitoring visits, and refresher training sessions. Communities are encouraged to establish maintenance funds for sustainability.
